BENGALURU, 18 NOV

Known as one of the oldest industrial hubs in City, Peenya Industrial Area is grappling with civic mismanagement issues, including bad roads and uncollected garbage.

Peenya Industrial Association (PIA) said the industries are facing financial losses as foreign investors refuse to visit the area due to a lack of basic infrastructure. "It's a horrible situation. Garbage lies in heaps and the roads are riddled with potholes and are haphazardly asphalted," said Prakash C, a member of PIA.

The area, which is home to over 16,000 industrial units, contributes around Rs 3,000 crore as taxes and Rs 5,000 crore as payments to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited annually, the association said. The goods manufactured at the industrial units here are supplied to Indian Space Research Organisation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Defence Research and Development Organisation, among other prestigious private companies and organisations.

"PIA has been making repeated requests to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to improve infrastructure to help industrial units run smoothly. Goods transportation has also become a problem due to potholes. Streets are waterlogged at a whiff of rain," Prakash said.

Hundreds of crores are being poured into the constituency, and yet the infrastructure provided to the residents and workers here is poor, the PIA said. -Salar News
